It’s pretty undisputed that last year’s Batman: Arkham City is nothing short of amazing. Defeating some of the greatest comic book super villains, solving crimes, swooping around all the great landmarks of Gotham City, it’s as close to being Batman as most of us will ever come. So the announcement and trailer of Batman: Arkham City—Game of the Year Edition is enough to pique anyone’s interest.
Before I go on, I want to point out that I’m not the biggest fan of game companies purposely holding out on game content, and later releasing it as DLC in order to milk gamers of a little more money. But Batman: AC stands alone itself as an incredible game, and the downloadable content merely adds to the fun, rather than completing what should have been initially available.
So this new edition, complete with lots of extra goodies, is another good example of what games should be like. The Game of the Year Edition comes complete with all the original DLC immediately available: Catwoman’s story chapters, Nightwing’s, Catwoman’s and Robin’s Challenge Packs, and the Arkham City Skin and Challenge Pack (new costumes for Batman, and a few new challenge maps).
But even if you already got those items on your original game, there’s enough brand new material to still make this a tempting offer. An extra chapter has been added to the story, “Harley Quinn’s Revenge.” And there’s also the feature-length movie Batman: Year One (based on the classic comic story by Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli) from DC Entertainment and WB Animation.
So if you haven’t played Batman: AC yet, consider all the top-notch reviews it’s gotten and definitely pick up this new edition, because if you play the game you’ll immediately want all the extras. Batman: Arkham City—Game of the Year Edition will be released May 29, 2012 for PS3 and XBOX 360.
