Holidays will never be the same again now that Syfy has announced the launch of a new slate of holiday-themed Saturday Original Movies, beginning this Halloween with Zombie Apocalypse, starring Golden Globe winner Ving Rhames (Pulp Fiction, Mission Impossible, Dawn of the Dead), which will premiere Saturday, October 29 at 9PM (ET/PT).
Upcoming holiday-themed movies will include Snowmageddon, airing Saturday, December 10 at 9PM, about a mystical snow globe that, when shaken, makes very bad things happen in the real world, starring Michael Hogan (Battlestar Galactica), David Cubitt (Medium) and Magda Apanowicz (Caprica).
On St Patrick’s Day, Saturday, March 17, 2012 at 9PM, Syfy will premiere St. Patrick’s Day Leprechaun (working title). An evil leprechaun, who has been imprisoned within the roots of a majestic old oak tree, is accidentally set loose on St. Patrick’s Day. Once free, he takes out his bloody revenge on the descendants of the people who originally incarcerated him.
Said Thomas Vitale, Executive Vice President, Programming and Original Movies, Syfy: “Syfy is committed to finding new and different ways to destroy the world in our Saturday Original Movies. Since 2002, we’ve unleashed natural disasters, unnatural disasters, creatures on land, sea and air, and iconic fantasy characters. Now we’re taking over the holiday seasons, one terrifying movie at a time.”
In the Halloween-themed Zombie Apocalypse, a zombie plague has wiped out 90 percent of the world’s population. A small group of survivors, led by Rhames, fight their way across the United States to a rumored refuge on the island of Catalina. The movie also features Taryn Manning (Hawaii Five-O, Sons of Anarchy). Zombie Apocalypse is a production of The Asylum (Mega Python Vs. Gatoroid).
Zombie Apocalypse airs during Syfy’s annual month-long fright fest 31 Days of Halloween, featuring more than 600 spine-tingling programming hours culminating in the Ghost Hunters Halloween Live telecast on October 31 from 7PM-1AM/ET.
