Transmissions: Theories for the Season Finale of The Walking Dead

The Walking Dead ends its current season this Sunday on AGlennMC.  Everyone involved with the show is amazing at keeping secrets, leaving fans rabid for answers as to what Terminus really means for our heroes. The internet is filled with theories concerning what Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and company are going to have to confront at this alleged sanctuary. In my opinion the answer has already been given in one of the released scenes for Sunday’s episode and it is as bad as you would expect.

In this scene, Rick is explaining to Carl (Chandler Riggs) how to set a trap. He tells Carl that when setting the trap you need to make the ground “funnel shaped” and Carl responds, “like a trail?” Rick explains to Carl that by using this method any animal going by this path will have to run right into the trap. That type of trap works for rabbits but in the case of our survivor the trail is the railroad tracks. (watch the clip below) Rick and company are looking for a place to rest and the promise of sanctuary is very appealing.  The sad thing is that like a snare covered in twigs and leaves the group may get snagged in the end. I think that the producers posted this particular scene to let the fans know that what they have long suspected is true; Terminus is a trap.

I have to admit that I do not read The Walking Dead comic so I am not up on the story lines in the books. My brother Dominick does read the comic and he told me about a story line with cannibals. It seems in the comic, Dale (who met his end on Hershel’s farm on the show) is captured by cannibals who cut off his leg and proceed to eat it for dinner. Since Dale (Jeffrey DeMunn) is dead and Beth (Emily Kinney) has been kidnapped; is it safe to assume that the cannibals from the comic are making an appearance and they have Beth? To expound on this idea, when the group arrives at Terminus and are greeted by Mary (Denise Crosby) she seems to be grilling meat. There are no cows around and no other noticeable livestock, so what is she grilling?

I know that I am probably not hitting any points that haven’t been thought of by you, the loyal viewer. We all know that Terminus is a trap because in order to have good drama you need conflict, and besides our favorite group of survivors haven’t really been able to rest since this all began. All of the “safe havens” that have been presented, from Hershel’s farm up to and including the prison had some underlying problem that led to trouble. The farm had the walkers in the barn, Woodbury had The Governor (David Morrissey) and the prison had not only the plague but Lizzy the psycho child feeding the undead. From all of those examples it is a safe bet that Terminus is just another death trap disguised as a place of rest.

The question that hasn’t been answered is: who will be dead by the end of Sunday night’s episode entitled, “A?” I personally feel that Rick and Carl will make it out alive with Michonne (Danai Gurira) being another safe bet. Daryl (Norman Reedus), who has yet to regroup with Rick and company, should also be pretty safe. Speaking of Daryl, I recently I attended Walker Stalker Con in Chicago and I noticed several woman wearing shirts that read, “If Daryl dies, we riot!” Although it would be a big shock, I can’t see the producers offing such a popular character.  That being said, I also feel Glenn (Steven Yeun) is set to make it past Sunday’s episode but I can’t say the same for Maggie (Lauren Cohan). Now that the love-struck couple has been reunited it seems fitting to break them up on a more permanent basis. Don’t get me wrong, I love Maggie but the burning of the photo seemed like foreshadowing. Maybe I have it wrong and when Maggie told Glenn he wouldn’t need the photo any longer it was because he was the one who wasn’t going to be around much longer; but to me that seems too obvious.

Another character that we may lose could be Carol (Melissa McBride).  I can also see Carol sacrificing herself to atone for her sins. She is holding too much guilt following the deaths of Mika (Kyla Kenedy) and Lizzie (Brighton Sharbino). I give her less than 50% odds of living.

All of this is, of course, speculation. I don’t know what will happen and I don’t want our group to lose any more members, but I know that it will. Not everyone will come out of the season finale alive. We will just have to wait and see what will happen Sunday night at 9 on AMC.
