Lakeshore Records and Fifth Season
are set to release Nine Perfect Strangers : Season 2—Original Series Soundtrack digitally today, May 23 featuring music by two-time Oscar nominated composer Marco Beltrami and Miles Hankins. The eclectic score is immediately lush and elegant with piano, strings and ethereal vocals, gradually becoming more ominous and layered with elements of dark musical tension and twisted sound design as the story unfolds. The Hulu Original drama series created by David E. Kelley and starring Nicole Kidman is streaming now.
Nine new strangers connected in ways they could never imagine are invited by mysterious guru Masha Dmitrichenko (Kidman) to join a transformational wellness retreat in the Austrian Alps. Over the course of a week, she takes them to the brink. Will they make it? Will she? Masha is willing to try anything in the interest of healing everyone involved, including herself.
Notes Beltrami: “The goal of the score for season 2 was to keep a connection with some thematic elements from season 1, but yet also come up with new ideas for the new locale and characters. Jon wanted to invoke some of the classical roots of Europe, but in a light-hearted, contemporary way that didn’t get melodramatic. The “prepare for arrival” and “season recap” tracks on the album is the initial idea that came to mind, and were the first pieces we presented to him. As always, Miles and I and Buck Sanders had a great time collaborating on this unique and wonderful show; full of inspiration from the amazing Jonathan Levine!”
Adds Hankins: “We had a lot of fun with season 2, getting to dive further into the mystery of Masha’s backstory, and accompanying a terrific new ensemble with their own set of quirks, hidden traumas and ticking clocks. We introduced a vocal element to the score this season, and created a new set of themes and textures which descend into a kind of musical madness as we follow these intersecting journeys down the rabbit hole. We hope the audience will enjoy listening as much as we enjoyed creating!”
