Have you noticed that these days geek culture is everywhere? A decade ago you would only see the occasional person wearing a geeky t-shirt but nowadays you see people of all ages flying their geek flag. I think it is fantastic.
I am one of those people who not only likes to show their geek-side but would rather be LARP-ing (Live Action Role Play) wearing an Avengers insignia rather than just putting on a t-shirt that says, “Captain America.” Fortunately there are companies producing clothing that allows you to dress like you are from a far off planet or are a futuristic explorer. One of those companies is called Volante Design. Continue reading
The Mirror Universe holds a certain fascination for Star Trek fans. The fascination started when Captain Kirk and his landing party were accidently transported to an alternate Enterprise of the Terran Empire. This savage and xenophobic authoritarian regime rules the galaxy with an iron fist taking what they want and enslaving populations. They are the complete opposite of the United Federation of Planets. In 1962 President John F. Kennedy challenged America to reach for the stars, specifically the moon. The Soviet Union had successfully launched a satellite (Sputnik) into space and they were leading in the “space race.” Kennedy wanted the U.S. to reach the moon before the end of the 1960s, giving NASA only 8 years to accomplish the task. To some, reaching the moon was nothing but science fiction but others decided to make it an achievable goal. Eight years after Kennedy first offered up a timetable, the impossible became a reality. On July 21, 1969 Neil Armstrong was the first man to set foot on the moon. Armstrong was eventually joined by Buzz Aldrin. Teammate Michael Collins orbited the moon waiting for their return. Though there had been other missions, the Apollo 11and its successful landing made history. Continue reading
Collectors of the 6-inch Star Wars Black Series figures are getting a “second chance” to pick up figures they may have missed out on many years ago. Some of these earlier Black Series figures sell for hefty sums on the secondary market; the Archive figures are just re-releases of figures at a more reasonable price.
The first wave of Archive figures had a trio of bounty hunters, Bossk, IG-88 and everyone’s favorite, Boba Fett. Also included in this first round was X-Wing Pilot Luke Skywalker (in his orange jumpsuit). I was able to pick up Bossk and IG-88 for my collection without breaking the bank. Continue reading

When JFK announced in 1962 that the United States would have a man walking on the moon before the end of the decade space travel was just science fiction. At the beginning of the 1960’s the space program was in its infancy and was expected to grow up very quickly. In 1969 we proved that nothing is impossible when Neil Armstrong set foot on the moon. This was a monumental achievement and what makes it more extraordinary was the fact that computer science was also in its infancy. In fact, the average smart phone is approximately 32,600 times faster than the computers used by NASA in the 1960s. That is pretty amazing. Continue reading
